Information for Grant Applicants

The Pro Bono Publico Foundation is now able to accept and consider applications for grants. The deadline for first phase grant applications is July 15, with grant announcements to be made by the end of the calendar year.

To simplify the application process, the Foundation will use the Common Application Form and Grant Proposal Format prepared by the Southern Louisiana Grantmakers (click to download pdf of this page and Common Application Materials). This format and form are accepted by many foundations and corporations currently making grants in our area.

Phase 1 of the application process requires only the basic Common Application pages plus a narrative. Applicants invited to advance to Phase 2 consideration will be asked to submit the additional documentation listed below.

Who We Are: The Pro Bono Publico Foundation takes its name from the motto of the Rex Organization, which means “For the Public Good.” The Foundation seeks to raise money and makes grants to help organizations engaged in charitable and community work in the New Orleans region.

Eligibility: Nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations serving the greater New Orleans region.

Grant Amount: Open, but generally less than $25,000.

Funding Priorities: Innovative and effective programs and organizations serving the citizens of the New Orleans region with a major focus on education. See additional information regarding funding priorities for the current grant cycle.

Reporting and Evaluation: Grant recipients are asked to provide a semi-annual one page summary documenting the use of grant proceeds and progress made on funded programs.

  • Narrative as outlined in Southern Grantmakers Common Application Form (no more than 3 pages) Grant
  • Proposal Summary Sheet (From Common Application)
  • Most Recent Audit (if available)
  • Most Recent Financial Report (if different from audit)
  • IRS Determination Letter [501(c)(3) and/or 509(a)] Board of Directors and Key Organizational Staff
  • Audited Financial Statement/IRS Form 990 Annual Report (if available) Organizational Budget
  • Program Budget
